Life Mirroring the Past

Mayya is a 22-year-old mum who is new to the Women’s Crisis Centre. Here she is overcoming addiction and dealing with the trauma and abuse from childhood. Through this, she is showing herself to be a devoted mum. But, her recovery journey is just beginning. Click the video above to meet her!

Mayya was abandoned by her alcoholic mother twice then abused by those who were meant to care for her. Mayya recalls, “Life was hell - I was punished for every piece of bread I ate, yelled at and beaten.”

With no support for the trauma in her early years, Mayya's life spiralled.

By 16, she was using the lethal drug ‘Salt.’ A rehab stay led to a relationship with Vanya, who became abusive. Pregnant and desperate, Mayya found no support from her mother, who cruelly told her, “This is happening because you’re a bad person.”

After escaping a second abusive relationship, Mayya and daughter Amalia found safety at the WCC.

TIME FOR CHANGE

Finally supported, Mayya's deep wounds will need extensive Christian counselling and long-term support from the WCC. This Christmas, you can help Mayya and others like her by purchasing a Help Someone Heal Alternative Gift.
