SAFE SHELTER CHRISTMAS APPEAL
"The homeless are exhausted and mentally absent - like they’ve already died inside."
- Genya (Men's Crisis Centre Manager)
It costs the centres £2 a night to offer refuge.
Ivan now has help, and people to support him.
Who experiences homelessness?
Young and old are offered refuge at the Crisis Centres.
18-year-old Ivan is an orphan. He was left wandering the streets once foster carers stopped receiving their carer benefits.
Elderly man Nikolai was collected from hospital after suffering acute alcohol poisoning – without help, he would have returned to a life of homelessness.
Dima, 25, had been beaten for being homeless. They found him injured and starving in a basement.
“I've recovered from alcohol addiction and now I serve at the centre by preparing food for all the men and old people. I also teach the new residents, who want to change their lives like me. This place has given me faith, friends and a family.”
- Ruslan
“From my first days at the centre, I noticed people cared about my grief. They listened and said kind words, which I’d missed. There are people with whom I can chat, play chess, go for a walk. In a word, it's warm like a home.”
- Alexander
